How do I find the right file? |

Q: I know the file I want has 'Read More' in it but when I search I find a hundred results - how do I know which is the one that I want?
 A: I had a frustrating time this morning doing just this until I remembered that I had File Locator Pro installed. It's a good flexible file searcher - though I don't use it that often. But it not only finds the files, it shows you the line that the result is and the two lines before and after. This makes it really easy to see the result in context and know if it is the one that I want.
It took less than a minute to open up File Locator, do the search and identify the file. Not free but worth every penny of the price even if I only use it once every few months.

Q: . . . a Customer Relations Management System may be what I want . . .?
A: I looked at several of these for a client running a training company a year or so back - most of them were aimed at targeted selling, identifying leads and tracking them through a sales process. One of the systems I looked at was 37Signals HighRise. It wasn't good for him but worked fine for me and I've used it ever since.

Q: My friend has just got her first computer. She wants to email and chat to her family and friends, maybe browse a bit and write the odd letter or document.
A: Never the easiest question as we users take so much for granted. How can you make a set-up simple enough that she can find her way around without needing too much support.
When I was asked this last week it took me a while to work out an answer. In the end I removed as much of the pre-installed junk, trial software and other stuff as I could in the time I had available (frankly, it would have been better to have bought a copy of Vista or XP and doen a fresh install).
